Mumbai Trans Harbour Link: A Gateway to Connectivity and Economic Thrust

In a transformative stride towards enhanced connectivity, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) has witnessed an impressive surge in daily usage, with an average of nearly 30,000 vehicles utilizing the sea bridge daily in the initial 10 days since its inauguration. Developed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), this engineering marvel has not only reduced travel time but has also emerged as a revenue generator, with an average daily toll revenue of Rs 61.50 lakh.

According to MMRDA data, a remarkable 3.09 lakh vehicles crossed the sea bridge between January 13 and January 23, contributing a cumulative toll revenue of Rs 6.15 crore. The MTHL, inaugurated on January 12 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has swiftly become a critical artery for commuting between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

On the inaugural day itself, 28,176 vehicles traversed the bridge, generating Rs 54.77 lakh in toll revenue. The momentum continued with 54,977 vehicles using the bridge on the following day, resulting in toll earnings of Rs 1.06 crore.

The toll structure for the MTHL varies based on the stretch. The entire stretch from Sewri to Chirle, Navi Mumbai, incurs a toll of Rs 250, while the toll for Sewri to Shivaji Nagar (Ulwe), Navi Mumbai, is set at Rs 200. Passenger cars opting for a return trip pay Rs 300, with daily passes available at Rs 500 and monthly passes at Rs 10,000. Additionally, the toll on the Shivaji Nagar-Gavhan stretch is Rs 50, and Rs 75 for the return trip.

The MTHL’s success is not only attributed to its efficient toll system but also to its seamless traffic management. Mumbai police handle the traffic on the 10.4-km stretch from Sewri, while the Navi Mumbai side, including Nhava Sheva, falls under the jurisdiction of the Nhava Sheva police.
